The India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 opened at the India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, technology providers and sector experts to explore opportunities and accelerate the development of India’s bioenergy ecosystem.
The three-day international exhibition and conference is being jointly organised by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) and the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Government of Uttar Pradesh. The event focuses on advancing innovative bioenergy technologies, promoting clean-fuel solutions and strengthening the sector’s contribution to India’s ongoing energy transition.
The inaugural session witnessed the participation of several senior policymakers and industry leaders, including Dr. Ashish Kumar Goel, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman, UPNEDA; Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary–Transmission, Ministry of Power; Ravinder Singh, Director, UPNEDA; Deepak Ballani, Director General, ISMA; and Yashodhan Mankame, Executive Vice President–Bioenergy, Praj Industries, among others.
Addressing the Special Plenary Session, A.K. Sharma, Minister for Energy & Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the growing importance of bioenergy in India’s pursuit of energy security and sustainable economic development.
Calling the expo a timely platform for the sector, Sharma said Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a significant bioenergy hub, ranking first in CBG production, second in solar energy and first in the pace of solar panel installations.
He emphasised that the state is focused on developing a strong and integrated bioenergy ecosystem supported by enabling policies, advanced technologies, investment and skill development. The Minister also invited industry leaders and investors to explore opportunities in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the state’s commitment to providing a stable, supportive and business-friendly environment for bioenergy projects.
Sharma further indicated that the government would consider the proposal to establish Centres of Excellence in bioenergy and called upon industry stakeholders to develop a structured framework for training young people and creating sustainable career opportunities within the sector.
Speaking at the event, Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, said the state is rapidly emerging as an important contributor to India’s bioenergy transition, supported by its extensive agricultural resources, expanding CBG ecosystem and favourable policy environment.
He highlighted the potential of bioenergy to convert agricultural and urban waste into valuable energy resources while generating rural employment and creating additional income opportunities for farmers.
Awasthi also emphasised the need to strengthen infrastructure, technology and skilled manpower to support the growth of CBG and other bioenergy projects. He pointed to opportunities for establishing CBG equipment manufacturing facilities and Centres of Excellence in Uttar Pradesh, which could create new avenues for technology development, investment and employment.
With government support and greater industry participation, the state aims to position bioenergy as an important driver of economic growth, rural development and sustainable energy transition.
