The aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted the aerodrome licence for the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar, located in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The licence has been issued to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, allowing the airport to commence operations under the Public Use category with all-weather capability.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the airport is being developed in four phases and will also feature a multi-modal cargo hub. In its first phase, the airport will operate with a single runway and terminal, with the capacity to handle approximately 12 million passengers annually.
Once all development phases are completed, Noida International Airport is expected to accommodate up to 70 million passengers per year, positioning it among the major aviation hubs in the region.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu congratulated the Government of Uttar Pradesh, describing the project as a significant milestone for enhancing aviation connectivity across the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.
He noted that the world-class airport will stimulate regional economic growth, strengthen tourism and investment opportunities, and offer a seamless passenger experience while helping reduce congestion at existing airports in the region.
The ministry further highlighted that India continues to expand its aviation infrastructure through a balanced strategy that includes developing new greenfield airports while modernising existing brownfield airports and regional airstrips. Initiatives such as the UDAN Scheme are playing a key role in improving regional air connectivity.
Looking ahead, the country’s long-term aviation roadmap aims to develop more than 400 airports by 2047, further strengthening connectivity, economic growth, and national integration.
