New Delhi, July 2: The National Conference on Technical Textiles – Sportech Bharat Vision 2047, organised by PHDCCI in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, brought together policymakers, industry leaders and innovators at PHD House, New Delhi, to discuss strategies for positioning India as a global leader in technical textiles.
Addressing the conference, R.K. Vij highlighted the achievements of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and called for the rationalisation of duties on key raw materials such as PTA and MEG to strengthen India’s global competitiveness.
Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Textiles, underscored the growing demand for high-performance sportech products driven by initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India. He noted that India’s technical textile exports have grown from ₹8,827 crore in FY2014 to ₹28,392 crore in FY2025, reflecting the sector’s strong momentum.
Manisha Chatterjee provided an update on the commercialisation of technologies under the NTTM, outlining the impact of the PRAMAN guidelines and recent project approvals aimed at accelerating industry growth.
Speaking on future trends, Dr. Harish K. Chatterjee emphasised the convergence of smart sensors and technical textiles, describing intelligent textiles as a key growth area for the industry.
The conference served as a platform for industry stakeholders to deliberate on policy reforms, innovation and market opportunities, reinforcing India’s vision of becoming a global powerhouse in technical textiles by 2047.
