DDA Convention Centre, community hall denied fire safety certificates

Serious lapses found during inspections, says official

The Delhi Fire Service has refused to renew the fire safety certificate (fire NOC) of the DDA Convention Centre located in the Shastri Park area after finding serious fire safety lapses during inspections.

According to an official notification, Fire Department officers inspected the DDA Convention Centre in the presence of an assistant engineer on December 8.

The building, comprising a basement and ground floor, was found to have several non-functional fire safety systems. These included first-aid hose reels, automatic fire detection and alarm system, automatic sprinkler system, mechanical smoke exhaust (MOEFA), down-comer system, pumping arrangements and the terrace pump.

Due to these shortcomings, its application for renewal of the fire safety certificate was rejected, the notification read.

The Fire Department stated that occupying the premises without proper fire safety arrangements would be entirely at the risk and liability of the owner or occupier. It also warned that the licensing or statutory authorities may take necessary action as deemed fit in view of the safety violations.
