Groundbreaking Ceremony Announced for Mohali Convention & Exhibition Centre
Mohali, India | May 2026
In a significant development for North India’s exhibition and convention landscape, M.Q. Syed, Chairman & Managing Director of EXHICON Group, and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Chairman of India Exposition Mart Limited, have jointly announced the Bhoomi Pujan and Foundation Laying Ceremony for the upcoming Mohali Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Scheduled for Thursday, 7 May 2026, the ceremony will be led by senior leadership from both organisations, including Mukesh Gupta, Director, India Exposition Mart Limited; Sachin Sinha, Chief Financial Officer, India Exposition Mart Limited; and Padma Mishra, Director, EXHICON Group, at the project site in Mohali.
While the ceremony is being conducted as a private, invite-only gathering, it marks a milestone of considerable importance for the region’s business events ecosystem. Positioned as a transformative infrastructure project, the Mohali Convention & Exhibition Centre is set to play a pivotal role in strengthening North India’s exhibition, convention, and integrated retail landscape.
The development is expected to significantly enhance the region’s capacity to host large-scale trade fairs, industry events, and business gatherings, further decentralising India’s exhibition footprint beyond traditional metro hubs. It also reflects a broader strategic push to build world-class MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) infrastructure across emerging economic corridors, aligned with growing demand for regional event destinations.
Senior industry stakeholders and select partners are expected to attend, marking the formal commencement of what is widely viewed as a landmark project for the northern region’s business events industry.
