Vadodara: In a first-of-its-kind move for a Prime Minister’s public programme, free public registration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “NaMo for Viksit Bharat” event in Vadodara was opened through BookMyShow.

The initiative, led by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), saw all available seats booked within one hour of registrations opening. More than 42,000 additional applicants were subsequently placed on the waiting list.

From Ticketing Platform to Public Event Infrastructure

The programme also demonstrates how mainstream digital ticketing platforms can be integrated into large-scale public events. BookMyShow was used not only for registration but also for the event’s digital access and verification system.

Registered participants received digital M-Tickets carrying live QR codes, enabling digital verification at entry, with registration, verification, entry and seating managed through the technology-enabled system.

₹35,000+ Crore Development Agenda

The Vadodara programme included the inauguration, dedication and foundation stone laying for development projects valued at more than ₹35,000 crore, spanning railway, freight, highway and other infrastructure projects.

Why This Matters to the Events Industry

For India’s exhibition, events and MICE ecosystem, the Vadodara experiment is significant beyond the individual programme. It illustrates the growing convergence of event infrastructure, digital ticketing, registration technology, QR-based access, crowd management and data-enabled venue operations.

The development also raises the profile of technology platforms traditionally associated with entertainment ticketing as potential infrastructure partners for large public gatherings and mass-participation events.

TFT VIEW:

The Vadodara programme offers an interesting case study in how digital-first registration and venue access can become an integral part of large-scale event management in India.
