The Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026 organised by Informa Markets India generated investment interest worth more than ₹3,200 crore in India’s biogas and compressed biogas (CBG) sector, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA).

Held from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida, the three-day exhibition brought together industry stakeholders to explore business partnerships, emerging technologies and opportunities to expand bioenergy production across the country.

According to IBA, the event highlighted the growing commercial potential of India’s biogas and CBG industry, with an estimated investment pipeline exceeding ₹3,200 crore. The pavilion featured solutions across waste-to-energy, biogas upgrading, CBG production, biomass utilisation and organic-waste management, reflecting the sector’s contribution to the country’s circular bioeconomy.

An important part of the event was the International Bio-Energy Conference, organised by IBA on October 24. The conference brought industry experts and stakeholders together to discuss the development of an integrated CBG ecosystem, investment opportunities, technological advancements and the potential of next-generation renewable fuels.

Key discussions covered feedstock management, project financing, technology efficiency and strategies to develop commercially viable bioenergy projects.

The Expo was held amid the government’s ₹23,731 crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, which aims to accelerate domestic CBG production over the coming decade. Its pricing framework, offtake provisions and financial support mechanisms are expected to improve project viability, attract investments and encourage the development of commercially scalable CBG infrastructure.

Gaurav Kedia, Chairman, Indian Biogas Association, said in the statement, “The investment commitment of over ₹3200 crore associated with REI 2026 reflects growing confidence in India’s bioenergy sector. However, the next important step is to translate investment interest into financially viable and operational projects.
