Chennai is poised to commence construction of the Kalaignar International Convention Centre at Muttukadu on East Coast Road, with work expected to start by mid-April. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will soon lay the foundation stone for the ambitious ₹525 crore project, which will be developed on 37.49 acres near Dakshin Chitra.
Envisioned as a major global destination for conferences and cultural events, the convention centre will feature a 10,000-capacity exhibition hall, a 5,000-seat convention hall, and a 2,000-seat auditorium spread across two levels. The facility will also include parking for 1,700 vehicles, multiple dining areas, cafeterias, and a VIP lounge. Designed with ornate sthapathi craftsmanship and a grand architectural entrance, the centre is expected to become a striking new landmark for the city.
The project, spearheaded by the Public Works Department (PWD), has nearly completed the land acquisition process. With a targeted construction timeline of 18 months, the Kalaignar International Convention Centre is set to emerge as Chennai’s premier venue for international conferences, exhibitions, and cultural programs.
