The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) has launched its sixth landmark visual art exhibition, ‘Light into Space,’ at The Art House, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience. The exclusive preview night saw a gathering of art enthusiasts, collectors, and cultural connoisseurs eager to witness this extraordinary showcase.
Curated by the New York-based Dia Art Foundation, the exhibition pays homage to the Light & Space art movement, an avant-garde visual art ethos that emerged in Southern California during the 1960s and 70s. Featuring works by renowned American artists such as John Chamberlain, Mary Corse, Walter De Maria, Dan Flavin, Nancy Holt, Robert Irwin, and Robert Smithson, along with French artist François Morellet, the exhibition explores the transformative relationship between light, space, and perception.
An Immersive Encounter with Light & Space
Spanning across four floors of NMACC’s dedicated visual arts space, ‘Light into Space’ presents a striking interplay of light, materials, and environment, inviting viewers into an interactive and sensorial exploration. The exhibition moves beyond conventional artistic mediums like paintings and sculptures, incorporating fluorescent lights, polished metal, reflective paint, mirrors, and large-scale installations to create dynamic, participatory experiences.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Isha Ambani, alongside Jessica Morgan, Nathalie de Gunzburg Director and Curator, and Min Sun Jeon, Assistant Curator at Dia Art Foundation, in the presence of esteemed delegates. Marking the first-ever comprehensive showcase of this movement in India, the exhibit offers a visually arresting journey that challenges fixed perceptions of reality.
‘Light into Space’ will be on view until 11th May 2025 at The Art House.
